Cloud Campaign Inc. plans to open a permanent office in Boulder this summer, a year after it completed a startup program in the city.
The company, which produces software for marketing companies to manage multiple social media channels on one interface, has offices in Portland, Ore. However, it has Boulder connections, having been part of the Boomtown accelerator last year.
Cofounder Ryan Born said he will move to Boulder to set up the company’s product development and marketing office, while the company’s sales, customer support and operations staff will remain in Portland. Cloud Campaign aims to grow to 12 employees by the end of the year, split evenly between the two offices.
Born said Boulder made sense as another location because of the technology talent coming out of the University of Colorado Boulder and from other major tech companies in the area, along with a sense that the local startup community is tight-knit and supportive.
“It’s small enough where I think people still want you to succeed,” he said.
Cloud Campaign is primarily geared toward contracted social-media managers and marketing agencies posting on behalf of other businesses. Its main difference from other social-media management programs such as Hootsuite is separate workspaces for different brands, which helps managers avoid a horror story Born heard from a marketing agency some time ago.
“One of their interns accidentally posted a picture of herself playing beer pong on a Fortune 500 social media account,” he said. “Obviously, they lost that client, and it was a whole PR nightmare for them.”
Cloud Campaign closed its second fundraising round late last month for $1.675 million after raising $175,000 in its initial funding round last August, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
